About the Artist
My name is Leigh Weinberg and I am the artist and owner of Lawful Studios! I create all of my work from my home studio located in the hill country of Wimberley, Texas.
I have always been interested in making art of all forms and could never settle on one single method. My work is a blend of my many different areas of interest; one part pottery, one part illustration, and many parts painting, storytelling, art history, and a long list that could probably go on and on.
In 2019 I graduated from Southwestern University with a degree in Studio Art, focusing in Ceramics and Sculpture. I have been making and selling my work full-time since I opened Lawful Studios in 2021.
Statement
Through the exploration of color, texture, and visual storytelling, my work offers a fantastical escape from the mundane rituals of everyday life. I paint vibrant illustrations on clay that emulate the bold, graphic styles from children’s books and movies I was exposed to in my own childhood. I replace human subjects with personified animals to create worlds that are relatable, yet fanciful, distinctly separate from our own. By combining these whimsical illustrations with meticulous processes of shaping, painting, and carving functional ceramics, I aim to create wares that renew moments of childlike wonder in our daily routines.
